We were delighted that over 100 of our members came along to our Christmas Lunch on Monday 19th December to start the festive season. Members were treated to a glass of fizz as they arrived accompanied by music from the Ukulele club. Marlene cooked a delicious Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, helped by staff and volunteers who worked hard to produce a wonderful meal, during which we were entertained by our ‘opera singing waiters’ who sang a variety of songs. After the meal we were treated to a carol concert by The Avenue Club Choir who sang songs and carols with unending enthusiasm.
As tutor of the Creative Writing class on Monday mornings, I am very proud to announce the publication of Jenny Deane’s beautiful collection of poetry, ‘Is Anybody There?’ available now at Kew Bookshop.

On 16th March we held a Coffee Morning with all proceeds going to REACT, a local children’s charity who support children who have been diagnosed with life shortening illnesses.
We were delighted to hold another coffee morning with all proceeds going to KNA, following on from the success of our Macmillan coffee morning. Many of our members could not get to the Avenue Club without the help of the KNA volunteers so we are very grateful to them. Once again, the knit and stitch ladies had been busy knitting and making children’s clothes and toys, not to forget Hazels delicious jams and chutneys, which were snapped up for Christmas presents. Everyone went home happy!
Local MP, Sarah Olney, visited St Luke’s on 5th November. After a tour of the building and discussion with Simon and Lisa about what Kew Community Trust and The Avenue Club offer to the local community, she stayed to chat to members over a cup of tea, who were delighted to meet her.
Congratulations to Andrew Brown, one of our Members and Volunteers, who completed the London Marathon on 3rd October. Despite the aches and pains after running 26 miles, he still came to Choir on Tuesday! He ran to raise money for Prostate Cancer and Kew Neighbourhood Association. Well done Andrew!
