The Avenue Club

The Avenue Club is a busy daytime social and leisure club offering a range of classes, activities and events for those who wish to get the most out of their retirement.

Located at St Luke’s in The Avenue in Kew, we are ten minutes’ walk from Kew Gardens Underground and conveniently placed for a number of bus routes from Richmond, Brentford or Ealing.

We welcome everyone from across the local community and beyond – we have members from as far afield as Hampton.

The Club is run by Siobhan and Sue and Charlotte, who want to make sure that the Avenue Club offers ’something for everyone’. There is always an interesting mix of regular activities and classes taking place between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. These include exercise classes – Balance & Agility, Seated Exercises, Pilates, Tai Chi, Yoga and Zumba as well as a monthly walk; we also have a Men’s Wellbeing group, Phone Clinic, classes in Italian and Spanish, Art, Mosaic Art and lectures on History of Art and Film as well as our Creative Writers, Drum Circle and a Knit & Stitch group. Not forgetting our Choir and ‘The Avenukes’ our Ukulele players.

We serve delicious homemade lunches on Monday and Wednesday or simply pop in for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat.

You can find a full list of all the regular activities under CLASSES & ACTIVITIES

Here are details of our full Activity TIMETABLE.

In addition, in normal times, the Club also organises talks and discussions and social events, such as an annual choir concert, an Easter Tea, a Christmas lunch and an annual Bring & Buy sale.

Outings are also very popular. In the past, members have been to places such as the Bluebell Railway, Knowle House, Watts Gallery and Pitzhanger Manor, to name but a few.

For those who may need extra help and support

Some of our members are less independent and agile than others and we try to ensure that they continue to enjoy a range of activities, for example seated exercises and balance and agility. We also hope they benefit from meeting up with new and old friends.

If transport to the Club is a problem, Kew Neighbourhood Association (at KNA  or on 020 8948 8054 or Richmond Good Neighbours (at RGN  or on 020 3538 4060)  may well be able to help.

What our members say:

‘I think the Avenue Club is such an asset to the community. The variety of activities, outings and clubs is so beneficial to many people. It’s such an important meeting place for its members, a social hub and enables elderly people to get out and meet people in a lovely environment’.

‘Dear Avenue Club Team, Thank you for all your wonderful work keeping us stimulated and occupied for so long, under these strange circumstances. It will be so good when we can do all these great things at The Avenue Club, but until then, thank you again for all your hard work, look forward to happier days.’

‘The Club has increased my social skills. I was very shy before but have got more relaxed as I’ve got to know people. I really like and appreciate the warm and supportive staff’.

‘I love The Avenue Club. Living in Kew has always been good but now I’ve retired and started coming here, it’s got a lot better. I’ve met so many people, it’s fantastic. Now when I walk around the area, I bump into people know all the time. Lisa and all the staff do such a good job, we are very lucky’.
