The Avenue Club
The Avenue Club is a vibrant daytime social and leisure club offering a range of classes, activities and events for those who wish to get the most out of their retirement. We are located at St Luke’s in The Avenue in Kew, in a building that was originally part of the church, and is fully accessible. We are completely secular and welcome everyone from across the local community.
The Avenue Club is run by Siobhan and Sue, who try to make sure that the Club offers ’something for everyone’. There is always an interesting mix of regular activities and classes taking place, usually between 10am and 3pm (except on public holidays). These include Yoga, Pilates, Men’s Wellbeing, classes in French, Italian, Spanish and Art, and lectures on Opera, History of Art and Film as well as more sedate activities such as Knit & Stitch. You can find a full list of all the regular activities under CLASSES & ACTIVITIES
Here are details of our full Activity TIMETABLE.
UPDATE:
March 2022
The Government’s announcement on the relaxation of Covid related guidelines and measures means, not for the first (but hopefully the last) time in the last two years, we have reviewed the procedures we keep in place at The Avenue Club.
We have decided to continue spacing out classes as much as possible, rooms will be still be well ventilated and we will limit numbers to exercise classes, especially those in the Alexandra Hall. Rooms where exercise classes have taken place will be sanitised between classes and hand sanitisers will still be available for use around the building.
We will no longer ask staff, members & visitors to wear masks but are aware that this is a personal choice and you must do what makes you comfortable. We will try to take into account particular individual vulnerabilities and be sensitive as to what you feel safe with.
Details of all our classes can be found on our timetable here.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us in the Office if you would like any more information on any of our classes.
In addition, in normal times, the Club also organises talks and discussions and social events, such as choir and ukulele concerts, a Christmas lunch and an annual Bring & Buy sale.
Outings are also very popular. In the past, members have been to places such as the Bluebell Railway, Knowle House, Watts Gallery and Pitzhanger Manor, to name but a few. Once life returns to some normality, we will reschedule some of the trips and events that had to be cancelled when the country moved into lockdown at the end of March 2020.
For those who may need extra help and support
Some of our members are less independent and agile than others and we try to ensure that they continue to enjoy a range of activities, for example seated exercises. We also hope they benefit from meeting up with new and old friends.
Although at present we are unable to run it, our ‘Monday Club’ is a highlight of the week for some members. Please call us to find out more about what we could offer you.
If transport to the Club is a problem, Kew Neighbourhood Association (at KNA or on 020 8948 8054 or Richmond Good Neighbours (at RGN or on 020 3538 4060) may well be able to help.

‘Dear Avenue Club Team, Thank you for all your wonderful work keeping us stimulated and occupied for so long, under these strange circumstances. It will be so good when we can do all these great things at The Avenue Club, but until then, thank you again for all your hard work, look forward to happier days.’
‘The Club has increased my social skills. I was very shy before but have got more relaxed as I’ve got to know people. I really like and appreciate the warm and supportive staff’.
‘I love The Avenue Club. Living in Kew has always been good but now I’ve retired and started coming here, it’s got a lot better. I’ve met so many people, it’s fantastic. Now when I walk around the area, I bump into people know all the time. Lisa and all the staff do such a good job, we are very lucky’.
