Jack Andrews very kindly held a talk on 4th September here at the Avenue club. A volunteer guide at Kew Gardens for 25 years, he takes a fresh look at the life and work of Marianne North, the Victorian painter who travelled the world in search of exotic plants to paint and record in her journal. Listening to Marianne’s own comments on her early education, her views on marriage, and a surprising invitation to dinner at the White House. She also describes the background to 45 of her paintings which was featured in the talk.
