The Avenue Club Singers is run by Christopher and Margie, is a friendly and lively group. They sing in harmony and mostly arrangements for three parts: Soprano, Alto and ‘The Men’ (We always need more Men!).
The Avenue Club Singers always warm up voices with an openness, relaxed posture and enthusiasm.
Christopher Killerby: Christopher started leading and conducting choirs in his early teens as a head-chorister for the renowned Drakensberg Boys’ Choir and later at the Highveldt Youth Choir in South Africa. Despite a sojourn as a musical theatre “hoofer” in his twenties, music direction has always played a huge part in his life. In 2006 he started Colliers Wood Chorus – now a 60-strong community choir. He is a strong proponent for making music accessible to all. As well as the Colliers Wood Chorus, Christopher also directs the Colliers Wood Community Orchestra, Songs On Wheels (a troupe who perform at care homes), Jolly Good Company (producing Music Hall), Immediate Voices (an office choir), Going For A Song (singing group for over 55s) and The Games Maker Choir. Despite a very busy schedule, Christopher also manages to teach privately and sing professionally as a tenor for various opera companies in London and leads music-making and singing workshops for organisations including Opera Holland Park and The Royal Hospital Chelsea.
Margie Harrison: Margie is a pianist, flautist, choral conductor, composer and music teacher. For many years she was a Secondary School Head of Music and Director of Creative Arts. She is also an Examiner for A Level and GCSE Music. Margie has been the accompanist for the Avenue Club choir for four years. She is also a member of St Luke’s Choir and has directed this group with a number of her compositions.
