Balance, Agility & Mobility
Friday 11.30am – 12.30pm
We are delighted that Garry Freer will be back at the Club on June 11th with a new ‘Balance, Agility, Mobility’ class. Agility improves flexibility and control which in turn will help the body to maintain proper alignment, posture and balance during movement and prevent injury and falls as well as keeping you mobile, fit and active.

Ian Bloomfield & Margie Harrison
Our Choir Master, Ian Bloomfield, has been keeping our choristers in tune, while not at The Avenue Club, via YouTube. He has filmed warm up exercises and new songs for them to practise at home. They have been keeping in touch with each other, sharing anecdotes and songs. We are looking forward to them being able to sing together again.

Our creative writing class is returning to The Club form 17th May.
If you love writing, love words, and want to have fun; if you want to express yourself in a poem or prose, or just in a few lines that might develop into something longer.

‘Documentary Film: the new fiction’
The best documentaries can be as entertaining or suspenseful as a Hitchcock thriller — what happens next, who is telling the truth? This fascinating course is running until 29th June.

Melissa is running her French classes via Zoom and our linguists have been thoroughly enjoying talking to each other from the comfort of their own homes.

Farida joined The Avenue Club just over 2 years ago and has been busy here ever since! Originally from Afghanistan, she trained at Toni & Guy and has been styling hair for many years. She is well liked by all her clients and offers everything – from a straightforward blow dry to a full head of highlights.

Wilma and Isobel have been our hairdressers at The Avenue Club for many years.
They are an extremely popular team with our regular members and know all their clients very well. They offer everything from a simple cut and blow dry to a full perm.
Knit & Stitch

Thelma Foakes and Roxy Cowan
Our knitters and stitchers came are back at The Club and happy to see each other again in person. Although the group is usually a drop-in session, numbers need to be limited due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Friday afternoon 1-1.45 and 2.15 – 3.00pm
Michelle is coming back to The Club on Friday 21st May. The class is suitable for everyone from beginners upwards.

Bryan’s Low Impact Aerobics Classes have restarted at The Club. His regular members are delighted he is able to teach here again in person.

Caroline’s Meditation class is continuing on Zoom. The aim of the class is to help you release stress, support your wellbeing and make you feel more positive through meditation.

Linda runs the Mosaic class and has been keeping in touch online and we are all looking forward to the class returning to The Club on June 7th.
Everyone in the group started out as a beginner, joining at different times. New members are always very welcome and will start with a few small mosaics, then join in with the ongoing class project.

Opera talks with Ross Alley
Ross is back on 10th June with an edgy and enthralling series on “Opera and the Mysterious”
Ghosts, witches, demons, gods, dragons, potions, spells, transformations, curses – the mysterious world of myth, legend and fairy – tale in opera awaits you. Like all art forms, opera plots also embrace the mythical, the magical and the mesmeric. “Opera and the Mysterious” is a journey into the familiar “unfamiliar” comprising five parts.

Caroline’s classes are at the gentler end of the spectrum, suitable for those with some basic to intermediate experience.
Tuesdays 1-2pm and 2.30 – 3.30pm
Jacqui is back at The Club on Tuesday afternoons from 18th May.
Along with improving strength and flexibility, safe seated exercise also boosts your mood, helping to keep you healthy and fit and as well as possible.
The class is suitable for everyone.

Marietta’s conversational classes are organised around the level of the students, with the primary aim to enjoy communicating in Spanish, when travelling or speaking to friends.
She will be back at the Club from 17th May.
Stephen has been training members at the Avenue Club for two years and works exclusively with older adults – his clients’ average age is 73, his oldest almost 90!
Strength is increasingly seen medically as the most important component to staying active for longer; it strengthens muscles, joints and especially important – bones! It also improves coordination and balance, which reduces the chances of falling.

Monthly – every 3rd Thursday 9.30am – 12.30pm
Organised by Serge Lourie, these walks take place once a month on a Thursday starting at 9:30 for 9:45 from The Avenue Club.
Walks take around three hours and usually include a stop for a snack and comfort break after about one and a half hours.
Yoga with Caroline
Monday 10.30 – 11.30
This is a Hatha yoga (general) class of mixed ability where there will be a focus on balancing the body using the breath to gently mobilise, stretch and improve strength and muscle tone. It will include relaxation time to facilitate the release of tension in the mind and the body.
